This October, we'll be exchanging vows on the Isle of Skye and setting off on an adventure through the Scottish Highlands.

Scotland has held a special place in our hearts for years. From the dramatic landscapes of Skye to ancient castles, winding Highland roads, cozy pubs, and more history than we could possibly take in on one trip, it feels like a place made for us to explore.

Rather than a traditional wedding, we've chosen to exchange our vows surrounded by the wild beauty of the Highlands and spend the days surrounding it exploring Scotland together.

We created this little corner of the internet so our favorite people can follow along. Below is a glimpse at where the Marriagemoon will take us.

We start our adventure, which we’ve dubbed “The Marriagemoon,” in Inverness, the capital of the Highlands!

Inverness is a small riverside city filled with stone bridges, winding river pathways, and the dramatic Inverness Castle overlooking it all. We’ll spend our first two nights shaking off the jet lag right on the banks of the River Ness, which flows from that very famous loch just a few miles away.

From there, we’ll be within walking distance of places we’re excited to explore, including the newly reopened Inverness Castle and Uilebheist (pronounced Ewl-uh-vesht) Distillery. On our second day, we’ll make the short drive east to Culloden Battlefield, where the Jacobites made their final stand in 1746, and nearby Clava Cairns, an ancient Bronze Age burial site surrounded by standing stones that have stood for thousands of years.

The Isle of Skye. It’s serene, mythical, rugged, and somehow completely otherworldly. One quick look at its dramatic landscapes and crashing sea and it’s easy to see why we chose this place to get married.

Our journey there will take us along Loch Ness and through the western Highlands, stopping at the legendary Eilean Donan Castle before crossing the Skye Bridge.

The biggest day, the best day, the day we get married!

Our wedding morning will begin with the Swiechs, an incredibly talented husband and wife photography team who now call Scotland home. They’ll meet us at the hotel for our first look before we all head north to the Quiraing.

With its towering cliffs, rolling green hills, and views across the Trotternish Peninsula, the Quiraing is everything we dreamed of for our ceremony. There we’ll meet our celebrant, Ally Macpherson, a Skye native who even shares clan ties with Molly’s family. Our ceremony will include a few old Scottish and Gaelic traditions, including handfasting and sharing a drink from the quaich.

The Swiechs will capture it all through digital and analog photography, drone footage, and vintage Super 8 film. Afterward, we’ll pile into the car as newlyweds and continue exploring Skye, stopping at the cliffside ruins of Duntulm Castle and An Corran Beach, where dinosaur footprints have been preserved in the rocks.

Our first morning as newlyweds, we’ll leave the Isle of Skye and make our way south to Glencoe, right into the heart of the Highlands.

Glencoe is a small but legendary part of Scotland, surrounded by towering mountains, deep valleys, waterfalls, and some of the wildest scenery of our trip. It has also served as the backdrop for films like Rob Roy and Harry Potter. We’ll only be here for one night, but we plan to make the most of it.

On our way, we’ll stop at a small distillery to make our own custom Scottish gin before continuing into Glencoe. Once there, we’ll visit the memorial to the infamous Glencoe Massacre and walk out to Signal Rock, an ancient gathering place associated with the local clans.

And did we mention we’ll be spending our first night in Glencoe at a nearly 300-year-old Highland inn? We’re hoping to end the evening with a pint and some live Scottish folk music before turning in for the night.

The next morning, we’ll begin our journey toward Edinburgh, with a couple more castles waiting for us along the way. First, the haunting ruins of Kilchurn Castle on the banks of Loch Awe, followed by Inveraray Castle, a place Molly remembers drawing as a child and will finally get to see in person.

Our last three nights in Scotland will be spent in the beautiful medieval city of Edinburgh. Since it’s one of the most walkable cities in Europe, we’ll be saying goodbye to our rental car when we arrive and exploring the rest of our Marriagemoon on foot.

We’ll be staying in picturesque Dean Village, a historic little neighborhood tucked along the Water of Leith that looks like it belongs on a postcard. There is so much to see and do in Edinburgh that we know there’s no way we’ll fit everything into three days, but we’re certainly going to try!

We’ll explore Edinburgh Castle, wander through the National Museum of Scotland, stop into historic pubs, take a Johnnie Walker whisky tour, venture beneath the city on a spooky underground tour, and leave plenty of time to simply wander around and see where Edinburgh takes us.
